Dwight Man Killed in Fiery Crash on Route 47 near Saunemin

DWIGHT, Ill. – An accident claimed the life of a 62-year-old man from Dwight last Monday. The May 22nd incident occurred on Route 47 between Dwight and Saunemin.

According to the Illinois State Police, the unidentified Dwight resident was driving southbound on Route 47 near 2300 North when he veered across the center line and collided with a semi-truck operated by Zacharee Ellis, a 30-year-old from Carpentersville. The collision resulted in a fiery wreck, engulfing the vehicles in flames.

Emergency responders pronounced the 62-year-old man dead at the scene. 

The Livingston County Coroner’s Office has withheld his name pending notification of his next of kin. Zacharee Ellis sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The Illinois State Police have initiated an investigation into the accident. As of now, no further details have been released.
