BOURBONNAIS – A man and two cats have died in a blaze on Apple Lane in Tri-Star Estates over the weekend.

Bourbonnais firefighters report the fire broke out Saturday night just before 6:30 pm when reports surfaced of a structure fire in the area. While on their way to the blaze, Firefighters were told oxygen was in use at the home and the owner may still be inside. Upon arrival, Firefighters reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the home, later finding the body of a 63-year-old man inside.

Family members informed fire officials the man may have been smoking while oxygen was in use. The fire caused around $10,000 in damage to the home and also claimed the lives of the man’s two cats.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
