CHICAGO – Coronavirus testing has seen a dramatic drop off that’s been attributed to the holiday.

Illinois saw a 45% drop in testing in less than five days, seeing tests go from over 114,000 on November 25th to under 63,000 Sunday. A drop-off which has raised the daily statewide positivity in Illinois during that time.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced Sunday afternoon 7,178 new cases among 62,740 tests processed for a daily statewide positivity of 11.4%. An increase in daily positivity of 1.5%. On November 25th, IDPH reported 114,233 tests processed for 11,378 new cases, a daily statewide positivity of 9.9%.

This weekend, since Saturday afternoon, IDPH has reported 15,051 new cases and 165 deaths, including two residents of Will County, a woman in her 40s, and a woman in her 70s.

Sunday, Region 7 positivity climbed to 17.1%, up from 17% just 24 hours ago. A total of 360 COVID patients occupied beds across Will and Kankakee counties Saturday afternoon.
