Cedar Lake, IN – A Cedar Lake woman sustained serious injuries after her SUV collided with a tree late Thursday night.
According to Lake County Sheriff’s reports the incident occurred on West 109th Avenue in Center Township. Authorities report that the woman was traveling west when her Volkswagen Tiguan veered off the road near the 7000 block and struck a tree, landing in a ditch shortly after 11 p.m.
Lake County Sheriff’s Department officers were forced to break the vehicle’s window to reach the unresponsive driver, who appeared to be having difficulty breathing. The 51-year-old was subsequently extracted by paramedics and rushed to a local hospital for treatment. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
According to Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr., the Traffic Reconstruction Unit of the Lake County Sheriff’s Department is actively investigating the factors contributing to the accident.
