GARY, IN – An Indiana Department of Transportation maintenance crew on I-94 in Lake County nearly avoid a serious incident after a driver bypassed an attenuator, entered the closed lane, and ventured onto the shoulder where the crew was working.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this chilling incident.

“Motorists should always drive distraction free and be on the lookout for circumstances that may require them to slow down or change lanes,” an INDOT spokesperson said Tuesday.  “This isn’t limited to just encountering roadway crews, but it certainly hits close to home when our crews are put in danger like this.”

No charges have been announced in the incident.
