WILL COUNTY, Ill. – Two people were killed in a head-on collision involving a pickup truck and a passenger vehicle on Route 113 and Bauer Road in Will County early this morning, according to the Illinois State Police. The accident occurred at approximately 5:10 a.m.
The two occupants of the pickup truck were pronounced dead at the scene. A sole occupant of the passenger vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to officials from the Braidwood Fire Protection District and Custer Park Fire Protection District, the accident involved a head-on collision between two vehicles, leaving several passengers pinned in. One of the vehicles also caught on fire, causing significant damage. Wilmington and Coal City fire departments were also called to assist.
All lanes of the road are still blocked and police are advising drivers to avoid the area and seek an alternate route until further notice. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released pending notification of their families.
The Illinois State Police are asking anyone with information about the accident to come forward and contact them.
