Crash claims life of Joliet Teen after Bicycle hit by Utility Truck

LOCKPORT – Illinois State Police reported the death of a 16-year-old teenager following a bicycle hit by a utility truck off Route 53 around 8:45 am Monday.

The Will County Coroner’s Office identified the teen Monday night as Jo’Ovyonne Kortize Du’Shon Williams of Joliet.

According to reports, the accident occurred while Williams was riding a bike in the southbound lanes of Route 53 near Rachel Avenue in Joliet.  Police report Williams failed to yield to traffic and road in front of a 2007 White GMC Truck Flatbed driven by 64-year-old Dennis J. Kazmierowicz of Countryside, Illinois. 

Williams was pronounced dead on the scene.

 “Preliminary autopsy reports show multiple injuries due to a bicycle vs. utility truck collision,” Will County Coroner’s Office reported in a statement late Monday night. 

Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate.

No charges have been made in the case.
