Illinois Woman Fatally Struck by Truck; Joliet Driver Charged

JOLIET – A 49-year-old Illinois woman was fatally hit by a Ford 250 pickup on McDonough Street, west of South Larkin Avenue Monday night.

According to Joliet Police reports the crash, took place at 7:16 PM last night when Joliet resident Matthew Ortelli, 33, while making a left turn, struck the pedestrian in the westbound lane.

Ortelli allegedly left the scene of the crash but returned a short while later. The victim was swiftly transported to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center, where she died of her injuries.

Joliet police have since charged Ortelli with Failure to Give Information and Rendering Aid. As investigations persist, the roadway was closed for scene analysis. 

The Will County Coroner’s Office is set to release the victim’s identity later today. Witnesses or anyone with additional information are urged to contact the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit at (815) 724-3010.
