LA SALLE COUNTY, Ill. – A regular evening on Interstate 80 turned extraordinary Monday when it transformed into an impromptu landing strip for a small plane.

At 5:37 p.m., Illinois State Police rushed to the scene near Marseilles, where a Diamond DA-40, a single-engine plane, touched down in the westbound lanes at milepost 95. Miraculously positioned between traffic, the plane nestled onto the right lane and shoulder.

The lone pilot onboard emerged unharmed. As drivers and residents reel from the unexpected sight, the Federal Aviation Administration is launching an investigation into the startling landing.
