JOLIET, Ill. – Joliet Police have arrested several juveniles after a gunshot was fired in the parking lot of Atotonilco Taqueria, leading to a high school lockdown.
The incident occurred on East Cass Street when officers on patrol observed a large group of juveniles in the area.
According to reports, the officers approached, they heard a gunshot and saw the group of juveniles scatter in different directions. They chased one individual who appeared to have something in his waistband, along with a group of other juveniles, towards the Walgreens in the 300 block of East Cass Street.
The male they were chasing disappeared from sight, but officers later arrested Amarion Newell and four other juveniles who refused to comply with police orders and struggled with officers.
The police found one spent shell casing in the parking lot of Atotonilco Taqueria, but no injuries were reported. As a precautionary measure, the nearby Joliet Central High School was briefly placed on lockdown.
Three 17-year-old juveniles and one 16-year-old juvenile were arrested and processed for obstructing a peace officer. Amarion Newell, 18, was also arrested and later released on an I-Bond for the same charge.
