WINFIELD, IN – A jaw-dropping trailer crash in Winfield on Tuesday took out a power line pole in a truly spectacular manner.
According to Winfield Police reports, the incident unfolded around 3:00 pm in the 7000 block of E 117th Ave, involving a young driver at the wheel of a Chevy 2500 pick-up truck, towing a trailer loaded with debris. According to the investigation, the trailer swung out of control, veering off the north side of the road before striking a NIPSCO power line pole. The impact sent shockwaves through the area, causing the truck to spin wildly and careen across the street, ultimately landing in a ditch on the south side of the roadway.
The scene became even more perilous as the trailer, now detached from the truck, careened across into the oncoming lane. A quick-thinking Jeep driver traveling in the opposite direction skillfully navigated into a nearby field, narrowly avoiding a potentially catastrophic collision.
The roadway was shut down for over an hour while NIPSCO employees responded to the scene, working to restore power to the area.
No charges or injuries in the incident have been reported.
