Manteno, IL – Illinois DCFS Ward, 19-Year-Old, Fatally Struck by Vehicle

Manteno, IL – In a tragic turn of events, 19-year-old Bryce Ortega was fatally struck by a vehicle on Monday night in the 500 block of Grove Street, Manteno. 

The Kankakee County Coroner’s Office has identified Ortega, who was a ward of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and was residing at Indian Oaks Academy. The incident has deeply affected the Manteno community, highlighting the dangers of pedestrian traffic accidents. 

According to reports, the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident remained at the scene, providing immediate aid to Ortega. Despite the quick response from Manteno fire personnel and emergency services, Ortega later died from his injuries at the hospital.
