McHenry County Warns of Telephone Scam by Fake Warrant Officers

McHenry County, IL – The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning about a telephone scam involving individuals posing as “warrant officers” to extract payments over the phone.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the scam involves calls appearing to come from the number 815-338-2144. The caller claims the victim has a warrant for their arrest and demands payment via debit or credit card. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed this number is manipulated by scammers and not used for such purposes. Residents are urged to hang up immediately and contact local authorities if they receive such a call.
