Michigan Man Murdered Near Yates Township Bar, Suspect Arrested

Lake County, MI – A man was fatally shot in Yates Township early Saturday.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a shooting near Peyton’s Bar & Grill, formerly known as the Red Rooster, at approximately 12:04 a.m. They found 32-year-old Rashad Hawkins of Baldwin unresponsive in the roadway. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities have charged Marquavis Darnell Cager, an 18-year-old from Idlewild, with open murder and carrying a concealed weapon. Cager was arraigned on Wednesday.
