Momence Island Park is back in action this weekend after vandalism closed the park on Thursday. Park officials called out to area residents to aid in cleanup efforts shortly after the work had been discovered. Officials report the damage occurred during the early morning hours Thursday sometime after midnight.

By noon, damages had been repaired with Island Park reopening while officials awaited hazmat cleanup for a reported spilled porter potty that soiled the grounds.

“These great community volunteers see the little things that need upkeep and have offered to help! Repairs to the bandstand being done right now by community members! The tears are no longer from sadness but now of gratefulness for this community.” the Park District said in a statement this week.

Members of the community provided the Momence Police Department with videos for the investigation. No charges in the incident have been reported.
