NAPERVILLE, IL – In response to the harsh conditions of winter storm Gerri, Nicor Gas has effectively managed natural gas supply to its 2.3 million customers in Northern Illinois.
During the coldest days of the storm, where wind chills reached below -30°F, Nicor Gas distributed an impressive 12.41 billion cubic feet of natural gas, with 40% sourced from their underground storage. This approach, emphasized by Nicor Gas President and CEO Wendell Dallas, plays a vital role in stabilizing natural gas prices amidst market fluctuations.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration notes that natural gas heating is over 40% more cost-effective than electricity. This winter, residential natural gas prices are expected to be approximately 21% lower than in 2022. Nicor Gas also offers various programs to assist customers with energy costs and efficiency.
These include LIHEAP, Shield of Caring, the Sharing Program, the Energy Aide Program, payment arrangements, a Budget Plan, and an Energy Efficiency Program. Each program is tailored to help different customer segments, such as low-income families, seniors, and veterans, manage their energy usage and costs more effectively.
