Watsonville, CA – S Martinelli & Company has initiated a recall of approximately 25,000 cases of its Martinelli’s Gold Medal Apple Juice due to the detection of elevated inorganic arsenic levels. The recall affects products distributed across multiple states including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, among others.
The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) announced on April 16, 2024, that the affected products include the 1 Liter bottles of Martinelli’s Gold Medal Apple Juice with “Best By” dates of March 9 and 10, 2026. Consumers are advised to either dispose of the product or return it to their place of purchase immediately. Symptoms from short-term high exposure to inorganic arsenic can range from nausea and vomiting to numbness in extremities.
According to the FDA, inorganic arsenic is known for its toxicity, with potential long-term effects such as cardiovascular disease and various cancers. Children and infants are at heightened risk due to their smaller body size and rapid growth rates. The company has published a full list of affected batch numbers available for consumers to verify their purchases.
