JOLIET, IL – A significant milestone was reached this week as the Will County Children’s Advocacy Center unveiled its new, state-of-the-art facility at 1206 Cedarwood in Crest Hill during a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The event saw a gathering of notable figures including State’s Attorney James Glasgow, County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, and Crest Hill Mayor Ray Soliman, alongside other community leaders and stakeholders.
According to the State’s Attorney, the center, which has assisted over 11,600 children since its inception in 1995, is now situated in a building originally constructed for a daycare and preschool, featuring amenities like playgrounds and therapy dog areas. The move, supported by the Will County Board and County Executive Bertino-Tarrant, enables the center to expand its critical services to abused and neglected children and their families.
The facility’s inauguration coinciding with Child Abuse Prevention Month, emphasizes the community’s ongoing commitment to addressing child abuse. The center is also participating in the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign, symbolizing efforts against child abuse with blue pinwheels planted around the facility.
Since 2008, the Will County Children’s Advocacy Center has provided comprehensive support, including forensic interviewing and trauma-focused counseling, becoming a beacon of hope and justice for the region’s most vulnerable.
