Route 59 Hit-and-Run by Volkswagen Beetle, Naperville Bicyclist Seriously Injured

Aurora, IL – A serious hit-and-run crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist occurred on Saturday, April 13, 2024, around 4:41 PM along Route 59, just north of Liberty Street in Aurora. Aurora Police quickly responded to the scene where they discovered that the driver had fled northbound after the collision. 

A 65-year-old man from Naperville, who was riding the bicycle, was urgently transported to a local hospital by Aurora Fire Department paramedics, where he was listed in serious condition.The Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division is actively seeking to identify the fleeing vehicle, described as a black Volkswagen Beetle with possible passenger-side damage. 

The police, assisted by Aurora Emergency Management Agency and Naperville Police Department, managed road closures to facilitate an immediate investigation.Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division at (630) 256-5330 or the Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. Tips can also be submitted anonymously online at Crime Stoppers is offering rewards up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest or the resolution of the case.
