Madison, WI – Wisconsin faces unprecedented wildfire challenges as 35 fires ignited across the state on Friday, marking the most active wildfire day of the year.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has issued a statewide alert, urging the public to avoid all outdoor burning this weekend due to heightened fire dangers. Areas in the northwest part of Wisconsin saw significant fire growth, prompting a strategic reallocation of firefighting resources, including incident management teams. The DNR forecasts another critical fire day this weekend, with fire danger levels expected to hit “Very High.” Burn permits will be suspended in several counties to prevent further incidents.

Notable recent fires, such as the Smith Bridge Fire in Washburn County and the Apple Fire in Douglas County, highlight the swift and severe nature of the threat. Residents are strongly advised to check the DNR’s website for real-time updates on fire dangers and restrictive measures in place.
