Naperville, IL – Residents in Naperville will have an opportunity to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications during the DEA’s National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 25. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Naperville Police Department, 1350 Aurora Ave.

According to the Naperville Police Department, the initiative helps prevent medication misuse and theft, which often originate from home medicine cabinets. Studies show that many abused prescription drugs are obtained from friends and family members, making proper disposal an important safety measure.

During the event, officers will be stationed in the police department’s lobby to collect unwanted, unneeded, or expired prescription medications for safe and anonymous disposal. Participants are asked to remove medications from original bottles and place them in sealed plastic bags before drop-off. Liquids, needles, and inhalers will not be accepted.

The nationwide Take Back Day program, organized by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), aims to reduce the potential for prescription drug abuse and protect local water systems from improper medication disposal.
