Oak Brook, IL – DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Oak Brook Chief of Police Brian Strockis have announced the charging of five Venezuelan migrants with burglary and retail theft in Oak Brook.
According to the authorities, Miguel Ortiz-Griman, Felix Garcia-Diaz, Daniel Fernandez-Rodriguez, Samuel Alvarez-Garcia, and Oswaldo Rivero-Herrera, all without a known permanent address, were allegedly involved in the theft of over $2,000 worth of merchandise from two local stores.
According to reports the incident occurred on February 20, 2024, when a citizen reportedly observed four men stealing from the Nike store at 2155 W. 22nd Street. Oak Brook Police located their vehicle outside the Ulta store in the same mall, leading to a pursuit and subsequent arrest of all five individuals. The suspects allegedly stole nine fragrance items from Ulta valued at approximately $1,331 and merchandise from Nike worth around $726.98.
Berlin emphasized the seriousness with which DuPage County regards such allegations, while Chief Strockis highlighted the growing number of illegal migrant arrests in recent months. The next court date for the defendants is scheduled for March 18, 2024, before Judge Mia McPherson. It is important to note that these charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
