KANKAKEE — Today, as the nation observes #NationalOpioidAwarenessDay, the alarming figures from Illinois shed light on a growing crisis. 

Opioid overdoses in the state spiked by 33% from 2019 to 2020, leading to 2,944 fatalities. This staggering number outpaces both motor vehicle accident deaths and homicides by twofold, according to IDPH.
