Pittsburgh, PA – Another round of freezing temperatures will move in tonight, bringing colder conditions than this morning and creating renewed risks for roads, pipes, and sensitive vegetation by early Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Freeze Warning is in effect overnight after temperatures briefly recover today. Lows are expected to fall below 30°F across much of western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia, with a high probability of widespread subfreezing conditions developing after 10 PM and lasting through early Tuesday morning.
Cities including Pittsburgh, Butler, Washington, and Wheeling could see temperatures drop into the mid to upper 20s by daybreak. Cold air pooling in valleys may push some locations even lower, increasing the risk of frost and thin ice formation on untreated roads, especially along I-79, I-70, and I-76.
The coldest conditions will occur just before sunrise Tuesday, potentially impacting the morning commute with slick spots on bridges and overpasses. Residents are urged to protect exposed pipes, cover plants, and bring pets indoors ahead of the freeze.
Temperatures will rebound after sunrise Tuesday, but additional cold alerts remain possible if clear skies persist overnight.
