Peoria County: Woman Stabbed Sunday, Man Arrested for Murder Monday Morning

Peoria, IL – A tragic event unfolded in Peoria County on Sunday, March 24, 2024, leading to the arrest of a 61-year-old man in connection with the murder of a woman. 

According to Peoria Police officers responded to a distress call around 1:43 a.m., discovering a woman with fatal stab wounds in the 3400 block of W. Fallen Oak. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, with her identity and further details to be released by the Peoria County Coroner. The investigation, spearheaded by the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, Crime Scene Unit, and Patrol Unit, quickly led to the identification and arrest of suspect Josef Veil.

Veil was taken into custody without incident late morning of March 24, in the 1100 block of W. Virginia Avenue. Following an interview at the Peoria Police Department, he was charged with First Degree Murder and is currently held at the Peoria County Jail.
