Peotone, IL – A somber mood envelops the town of Peotone as they grieve the loss of Lieutenant Tim Evans, a dedicated firefighter from the Mount Prospect Fire Department. Lt. Evans, who valiantly battled cancer, passed away on March 30, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and service.

According to the Village of Mount Prospect’s press release, Lt. Evans commenced his career as a firefighter/paramedic on July 25, 1995, and his unwavering dedication led to his promotion to Lieutenant on February 23, 2005. His significant tenure with the department was marked by pivotal roles, notably on the Hazardous Materials Response Team and as a meticulous overseer of equipment and station upkeep. His efforts ensured the safety and readiness of his fellow firefighters, proving critical to the department’s operations.

Fire Chief John Dolan offered heartfelt remarks on Lt. Evans’s impact, stating, “I have known Tim for all 28 years of my career and being hired shortly after Tim, I couldn’t help but follow in his footsteps. Tim was passionate about his job as a firefighter, paramedic, and most notably, a Company Officer. He was consistent in his approach but was not afraid to challenge the way we did things in the name of improving our department. As a station maintenance officer, he looked after the station in the same thorough and caring manner he looked after his crew. Company Officer is one of the most important roles in fire service and Tim’s experience and knowledge is irreplaceable.”

Both Mount Prospect and Peotone emergency responders will united in their respect for Lt. Evans later today in Peotone to commemorate his life and honor his service at a memorial.
