Porter, IN – Vehicle Engulfed in Flames Due to Lithium Battery Incident

Porter, IN – A vehicle was engulfed in flames on Essex Drive and Pearson Road in Porter, Indiana, following a lithium battery fire within the vehicle. 

According to the Porter Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 13th. The driver, who suffered burns to his arm, received medical attention at a local hospital. For roughly an hour, emergency operations necessitated the closure of one entrance to the Port Cove subdivision. 

Assisting at the scene were Joe’s Towing, Northwest Health EMS, the Portage Police Department, and the Burns Harbor Police Department. The investigation into the exact cause of the fire is ongoing.
