Route 83 Closed in Elmhurst for Investigation After Early Morning Gunfire, Bullet Holes in Building

Elmhurst, IL – An early morning incident involving gunfire led to the closure of Route 83 Friday morning. 

According to the Elmhurst Police, officers began an investigation around 2:45 a.m. following a 911 call from a witness who reported hearing several gunshots near Route 83 and North Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a bullet hole in a nearby building, although no injuries have been reported. 

The investigation necessitated the temporary shutdown of Route 83 in both directions. 

Elmhurst Police detectives and evidence technicians are actively working on the case. The department is appealing to anyone with information about the incident to contact the Elmhurst Police at 630-530-3050.
