OAK LAWN, Ill. — The stage is set at the Oak Lawn Public Library (9427 Raymond Ave.) for the highly anticipated second annual adult Spelling Bee, slated for Saturday, Oct. 7. Contenders, both veteran and novice, will face off starting 2 p.m., battling word-for-word, many drawn from the esteemed Scripps National Spelling Bee list.
Those wishing to throw their hat into the ring must first pass a qualifying quiz between 1 and 1:30 p.m. the same day. The top 20 scorers advance to the main event. The community is encouraged to contribute word suggestions online or at the library’s Adult Services desk.
Programming Librarian Kate Donley recalls last year’s intense competition, noting participants aimed to conquer past spelling traumas. This year’s winner will earn not just bragging rights but also a dazzling champion’s crown or tiara.
