CHICAGO – The haunted season is seeing an eerie battle between fast food giants. While McDonald’s iconic Boo Buckets are making a chilling comeback, rival Burger King isn’t lurking in the shadows.
As McDonald’s revives its famous buckets, which first haunted Happy Meals in 1986, the company is introducing a fresh twist with a purple “Monster” design joining Skeleton, Mummy, and Vampire. But as these retro containers return, serving up nostalgia and doubling as festive decorations, it seems they have competition.
Burger King, not to be outdone, has spiced up its Halloween game. Amidst the launch of their fiery Ghost Pepper Chicken Fries and the return of the Ghost Pepper Whopper, they’re also releasing their own glow-in-the-dark Halloween buckets. These buckets, however, sport whimsical ghost-pepper-shaped chicken ghosts. The buckets will be available starting Friday, October 13, at select US locations. Burger King enthusiasts can snag these glowing treasures for just $1 with any purchase.
While McDonald’s original Boo Buckets bore designs of a pumpkin, witch, and ghost, and introduced nine designs in 2022, it’s clear that the real treat this season is the rivalry heating up between these two fast food behemoths.
