Stop Sign Overlooked: Pedestrian’s Fatal Encounter with Truck

PEORIA, IL — In a tragic event, a man lost his life after being struck by a truck at the intersection of Western and Garden on Sunday, October 1, 2023, around 6:33 p.m. Peoria Police reports show the pedestrian had disregarded a stop sign, leading to the fatal accident. 

Arriving officers found the victim next to a damaged bicycle. Despite the quick response of emergency crews and his transfer to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. The truck driver remained at the scene unharmed. 

The Peoria County Coroner will soon release the cause of death. Police urge witnesses to reach out with any relevant information.
