MORRIS – A 16-year-old is in custody this morning after a shooting Thursday left a woman dead and the community briefly asked to shelter in place.

The Morris Police Department announced last night they arrested an unidentified teenager for First Degree Murder in the incident. He is now in custody at River Valley Detention Center.

More details are expected to be released soon following the shooting in the 400 block of Twilight Drive just around 4:25 pm.  Grundy County Coroner’s Office has issued no further details on the victim’s identity.

“Our deepest sympathies go to the family of the victim,” Morris Police Chief Alicia Steffes said in a statement. “would like to thank the countless agencies who responded to our city. We are

truly fortunate to live in an area where you don’t even have to ask for help.”
