Urbana, IL – Woman in Critical Condition After Chokehold Incident with Teen

Urbana, IL – A 26-year-old Urbana woman is fighting for her life following a violent encounter with a 15-year-old family member. The Urbana Police Department reports that the altercation took place near Rainbow View and Kinch Street around noon on Sunday. The woman was found unresponsive and received immediate emergency care from family members before being rushed to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

The conflict escalated when the woman and the teenager, with whom she resides, engaged in a physical struggle after she reportedly struck him with an object. The situation intensified as the teen applied a chokehold on the woman, leading to her loss of consciousness. Alarmed family members contacted the mother, who subsequently called 911.

The teenager was briefly detained for questioning by the Urbana Police and was later released to his mother’s custody. An investigation is ongoing.
