URBANA, Ill. – A 16-year-old teenager from Urbana met a tragic end on Wednesday morning, after being ruthlessly shot in the head.

The incident took place at around 1 a.m. on the 2400 Block of Prairie Green Dr. near South Smith Rd., sending shockwaves across the community.

The motive behind the fatal shooting of the Urbana teenager remains unclear, according to the police. However, they have ruled out the possibility of it being a random act of violence, indicating that the victim may have been targeted.

The Urbana Police Department and the Illinois State Police’s Crime Scene Unit are leaving no stone unturned in their investigation to uncover the motive behind the heinous crime. But for now, they are pleading with the public for patience, as they work relentlessly to gather more facts and evidence.

As the community reels from the senseless killing, Urbana Police are asking anyone who may have additional information or video footage of the incident to come forward immediately. The police department has also urged anyone with information to contact them at 217-384-2320 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers by phone at 217-373-8477 (TIPS), online at 373tips.com, or via the “P3 Tips” mobile app.

In a bid to bring the culprit(s) to justice, Crime Stoppers is offering a substantial cash reward of $5,000 for any tips leading to an arrest in any homicide case, $2,500 for tips leading to an arrest in a felony crime involving a firearm, and up to $1,000 for tips leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for any other crime.
