Urbana’s Legendary Solo Red Cup Plant Shutters After 50 Years; 135 Jobs Vanish

URBANA, Ill. – A cherished fixture in Urbana for half a century, the Solo red cup manufacturing plant is set to cease operations by year-end. 

Mayor Diane Marlin confirmed receiving news from Dart Container Corporation, Solo Cups’ parent company, citing declining production as the cause. Regrettably, 135 jobs will be lost.

The Urbana plant, renowned for crafting the iconic red cups, stands as a testament to the town’s industrious spirit. Collaborative efforts between officials and the community seek to navigate this challenging transition.
