WESTMONT, IL – DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Westmont Chief of Police James Gunther have announced the pre-trial detention of a homeless man, Bryce Fleming, 23, following allegations of residential burglary and vehicle theft.

According to official reports, on Monday, Westmont Police responded to a disturbance call on Naperville Road. The victim reported an intruder had entered her home, stolen her debit and credit cards, and subsequently her 2022 Hyundai Tucson.

Fleming, accused of manipulating a windowpane to gain entry, was apprehended shortly after by Hinsdale Police during a traffic stop. Charged with one count of Residential Burglary (Class 1 Felony) and one count of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle (Class 2 Felony), Fleming’s actions have prompted a strong response from local law enforcement and the State’s Attorney’s Office, emphasizing the serious impact of such crimes on community safety and security.

Fleming is scheduled for arraignment on April 22, 2024, before Judge Brian Telander. As the case progresses, the public is reminded of the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
