Will County, IL – Aurora Homicide Suspect Dies from Self-Inflicted Gunshot near I-55

Will County, IL – An Aurora man suspected of homicide died by a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound after being pursued by authorities on Interstate 55, Grundy County officials announced Monday afternoon.

According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s  Department reports the sequence of events began when the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office responded to an alert about the suspect, leading to a swift interception on Monday. The incident, which began with a report of a homicide attempt in Aurora, culminated in Will County, where the suspect, Jeffrey Emerson, reportedly ended his own life amidst de-escalation efforts. 

No further information has been released at this time.

The Will County Sheriff’s Office and the Will County Coroner are now investigating the circumstances of Emerson’s death. The initial press release was issued by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department, highlighting their coordination in the multi-county response.
