Will County, IL – The Forest Preserve District of Will County is inviting the community to delve into the sweet tradition of maple syrup making and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with their furry friends. The series of events, set for the week of March 11, starts with an immersive experience into the world of maple syrup, followed by a festive St. Paw-trick’s Day dog program.

Kicking off the activities, “Nature Play Day After Hours – Maple Syrup” will take place on Tuesday, March 12, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Plum Creek Nature Center in Crete Township. This educational event is tailored for toddlers and their parents to learn about the process of making maple syrup, with a focus on the natural magic behind this sweet treat. The session is free for children aged 3-5, and pre-registration is required by March 11.

The celebration of maple syrup continues with “Maple Syrup Magic” on Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., also at Plum Creek Nature Center. This drop-in event invites attendees of all ages to explore the history and making of maple syrup, featuring demonstrations of tapping maple trees and syrup tasting.

Following the syrup-themed activities, the Forest Preserve shifts to a festive gear with the “St. Paw-trick’s Day” event at Whalon Lake Dog Park in Naperville, from 10 a.m. to noon on the same day, March 16. Dog owners are encouraged to dress in green and bring their pets for a St. Patrick’s Day-themed party, complete with a photo booth and dog games. To participate, a 2024 dog park permit is required, available for purchase online or on-site, with day passes also offered for $5.
