Wilmington, IL – In a significant development, the City of Wilmington has announced the reopening of Baltimore St (IL Rt 53) as of January 26, 2024. City Administrator Jeannine Smith, in a press release, indicated that while water levels are showing improvement, challenges remain due to flooding at Forked Creek.

Currently, the following streets are still closed due to ongoing flood concerns:

  • North 1st Street/Soldier-Widows Road
  • East Kahler Road (over Forked Creek)
  • North & South Island Parks

Residents are advised that additional roads may be temporarily closed as water levels continue to fluctuate in the area. The city urges the public to remain vigilant and prioritize safety, emphasizing the importance of not driving through water-covered roads with the clear warning: “DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH WATER. TURN AROUND!”

The situation in Wilmington is evolving, and local authorities are closely monitoring the flood conditions to provide timely updates and ensure public safety.
