Wilmington, IL – A second alarming incident over the weekend saw a vehicle roll over into the Kankakee River, trapping the driver inside. The Wilmington Fire Protection District reported the major rollover accident occurred Sunday night at the New River Rd Boat Launch, with emergency services, including the Coal City FPD and a Lifestar helicopter, responding to the scene at 11:15 pm.

This recent accident follows a similarly perilous event early Saturday morning, where another driver became entrapped after their vehicle veered off Route 113—a notorious stretch of winding roadway prone to such incidents, especially during the spray and summer seasons—and landed in the river. The consecutive accidents underscore the dangers present on this scenic yet treacherous route, prompting calls for increased caution among drivers.
