Woodridge, IL – The Village of Woodridge has initiated a Residential Chicken Keeping Pilot Program, aiming to explore the feasibility and community interest in backyard chicken farming. Interested locals can apply to participate in this eco-conscious initiative until October 5, 2025.

According to the Village of Woodridge’s official announcement, the program, effective as of April 5, 2024, will not cap the number of participants. Key stipulations include a required inspection of chicken coops before occupancy by chickens and adherence to specific regulations, such as coop size, placement, and maintenance.

The Village Board will decide post-trial whether to continue allowing chickens in residential areas. If extended, participants must register annually, subject to a fee and inspection. Noncompliance could lead to the removal of coops and cessation from the program. More information is available on the village’s community development webpage.
