Madison, WI – In recognition of Arbor Day today, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has announced that it has planted more than 2,500 trees along state highways since January 2021.
These trees serve multiple practical purposes for motorists, including noise reduction, wind control, and headlight screening. They also act as natural barriers against snow drifts in the winter. Environmentally, these trees are beneficial as they produce oxygen, enhance air and water quality, store carbon, and help cool the surrounding landscapes. This initiative highlights WisDOT’s commitment to improving environmental conditions and motorist experiences across the state.
On this Arbor Day, WisDOT encourages Wisconsin residents to contribute to their communities by planting trees in their local areas. Planting trees not only beautifies neighborhoods but also provides numerous ecological benefits.
Residents can participate in local tree-planting events or even initiate their own community projects. Additionally, educating oneself and others about the importance of sustainable practices can further enhance local environments.
