Boise, Idaho – Temperatures across southwest Idaho are set to drop sharply overnight, bringing a widespread freeze that could damage crops and sensitive plants by early Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, a Freeze Warning is in effect from midnight through 10 a.m. MDT Friday for the Treasure Valley, including Boise, Nampa, Caldwell, and Ontario. Overnight lows are expected to fall between 23 and 28 degrees, cold enough to harm vegetation and freeze unprotected plumbing.
Both the Lower and Upper Treasure Valley, along with parts of the Western Magic Valley including Twin Falls, will see the coldest conditions during the pre-dawn hours. Clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to drop quickly, especially in low-lying and rural areas.
This freeze poses a significant risk to early-season crops and backyard gardens, particularly as growing conditions had already begun to improve in recent weeks.
Residents should cover or bring in plants, protect outdoor pipes, and take precautions before temperatures fall tonight. Conditions will improve after 10 a.m. Friday, but additional cold mornings remain possible if the pattern persists.
