Saint Albans, WV – A man has been arrested following an alleged armed robbery in Kanawha County, with deputies also taking a second individual into custody during the investigation.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Sunday, April 19, 2026, to a reported armed robbery on Coal River Road in Saint Albans. The victim told authorities he was allegedly robbed at gunpoint of his phone, wallet, and other personal belongings.
Officials say deputies quickly located the suspect on foot. The individual was allegedly found in possession of the stolen items, along with a firearm believed to have been used in the incident.
Authorities identified the suspect as Charles “Chucky” Evans, who has been charged with first-degree robbery and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. He is currently being held at South Central Regional Jail awaiting arraignment.
During the investigation, deputies also arrested a second individual, identified as Max Tyshen Smith, on an active warrant connected to an April 16 incident at a West Main Go Mart. According to officials, he is accused of causing approximately $5,000 in damage after allegedly breaking a window.
The arrests took place in Saint Albans, located in Kanawha County near the Charleston metro area in West Virginia. Officials say the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities remind the public that all charges are allegations, and both individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
