KANKAKEE – Amazon’s Neighbors app, originally designed for home security alerts, has become an unlikely hub for pet owners to find their missing furry friends.
Recent posts show that the app is being used by homeowners primarily to report lost or found pets, with one update sadly confirming the death of a lost dog.
One post on the app came from a worried pet owner whose mother-in-law’s black lab puppy went missing in Bourbonnais. They asked for help to catch the pup and bring it back home. Unfortunately, an update later revealed that the puppy had passed away.
Another post showed a concerned citizen reporting two stray dogs that appeared on their porch, while another sought help finding their lost husky named Revy. Fortunately, the latter received a happy ending, with a later update confirming that Revy had returned home safely.
Even cats have not been excluded from the Neighbors app pet-finding network, as one user urged neighbors to check their garages for their missing feline named Wednesday.
The Neighbors app by Ring, an Amazon company since 2018, is an app designed to connect local communities and promote safety by sharing security alerts. Its newfound use as a pet finding service is a testament to the app’s ability to connect people and help those in need.
