Bystanders Risk Lives Saving Trapped Driver on Illinois Interstate

OAK BROOK, Ill. – A harrowing scene unfolded Tuesday on Interstate 88 when a pick-up truck collided with a semi, bursting into flames. The incident, which occurred near the 139.5-mile marker around 2:40 p.m., saw the truck’s driver pinned inside the blazing vehicle.

Witnesses to the crash reported seeing several courageous bystanders rushing in an attempt to free the trapped motorist inside. Firefighters later took over, successfully rescuing the driver. One driver is now in critical condition, with another hospitalized but stable. 

The bystanders responding to the scene suffered smoke and heat-related injuries, but declined further medical attention.
