Child sustains life-threatening injuries in head-on crash in Indiana Monday

LAKE COUNTY, IN – A child was severely injured in an early morning crash Monday and flown to Chicago for treatment.

According to Indiana State Police, it happened around 4 a.m. after a vehicle crash into the car head on at I-80/94 at the 3.8 mile-marker.  The crash involved a 2005 Chrysler van that reportedly struck the right barrier wall, crossed lanes, and hit the center median wall head-on. 

Officers identified the driver as Larry Haynes Jr., who was seriously injured, and two juveniles were inside the vehicle, one of whom had life-threatening injuries. Neither child was properly restrained in the car. 

Troopers report the crash is believed to be alcohol and/or drug-related.  Additional charges are pending the results of Toxicology reports.
