Catholic Charities Diocese of Joliet is offering educational opportunities for family caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s facilitated by Alzheimer’s Association.
These events are designed to help caregivers understand Alzheimer’s and dementia and provide them with tips and strategies for communication with those living with the disease.
The first event, Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia, is set to take place on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, from 2:00 – 3:00 pm. Attendees will learn basic information on the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia, stages, risk factors, research, and FDA-approved treatments.
The second event, Dementia Conversations, will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, from 2:00 – 3:00 pm. This educational program is intended for those who know someone experiencing changes in memory, thinking, and behavior and will provide tips and strategies for difficult-but important -conversations about changes that may be related to dementia. Topics include Going to the Doctor, Deciding When to Stop Driving, and Making Legal and Financial Plans.
The third and final event, Effective Communication Strategies, will take place on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 2:00 – 3:00 pm. This event will explore ways that Alzheimer’s and other dementias affect an individual’s ability to communicate across different stages, and attendees will receive tips to better communicate with people living with the disease.
