RIVERSIDE – A woman’s body has been discovered in the Des Plaines River Sunday morning, hours after a partially submerged car was found in the area.

According to police reports, the vehicle was discovered shortly after 8 am this morning near Riverside, IL. Ice and snow lead the 2017 Hyundai sedan to become stuck in the water. Police say the car entered the river near the intersection of Ogden and Lawndale.

Police retrieved the vehicle from the river by 10 am, but no victim was found in the car. After a short search utilizing drones, local fire crews, and the Illinois State Police, the body of a woman was discovered nearby under the Barrypoint Road Bridge at 1 pm.

No identity has been released on the victim. The vehicle recovered was registered to a Chicago address. An investigation is ongoing with the Illinois State Police.
