Kankakee County is gearing up for an exciting environmental field day on May 14th, 2023, hosted by the Kankakee Public Library. The event is aimed at everyday people who want to learn how to support the health and vitality of local endangered species and wildlife by using regionally available plant material.
Participants will start their day at the Kankakee Public Library before embarking on a guided tour of three to four local ecosystems, complete with interpretive hiking events. This is a rain or shine event, so attendees are encouraged to wear hiking shoes and dress in layers.
Nature photographers and those interested in sustainable food production will find this event particularly engaging. The facilitator for the day is Tonia Andreina, a Kankakee County local with a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Nature, and Society from DePaul University. She will be graduating in May 2023 with a Masters degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois.
Andreina’s additional interests include food forests, permaculture design, and community gardening, and she will be available to answer any questions about the event. To RSVP or ask questions, interested parties can contact Andreina at toniaa2@illinois.edu or the Kankakee Public Library at 815-939-4564.
Join us for a day of environmental education and hands-on experience as we work to protect and preserve our local ecosystems and wildlife.
